Kisumu and Lake Victoria
I am not sure why, but when I knew I was going to Kenya, I wanted to see Lake Victoria. Maybe because it is the start of the Nile River. That would probably be enough. Also, the name... something about this colonial English holdover intrigued me. Kisumu is a lovely and very friendly town. I spent a few days wandering around, and hired some local young entreprenuers to take me out on the lake for a few hours. I remember a very long bus ride through various terrains. Once we came around a bend in a thickly forested area, and out on a limb (literally) was a Colobus monkey staring at us. Just a brief glimpse etched in my mind. A great side trip.
