The semester I taught overseas ended that December, 2005, with a six week stay in Auckland, New Zealand. When the semester ended, I had a ticket home and lots of free time. So I paid a little extra to stay and travel for a couple of months. I headed directly for the South Island. As the images show (hopefully) it is quite beautiful!

p.s. Two more things: first although they call their waterways "sounds" they are scientifically fjords. The locals will admit this. Second, these photographs were taken with my Canon Powershot S70, my first digital camera, purchased just before the semester began.
